You can exchange modern currency for the currency of the 1800's at the Hooper and Eldredge Bank and spend it at the ZCMI Country Store or Gabriel's Restaurant (of course both shops will also gladly accept modern currency). Do like we did and sit a spell at the Huntsman Hotel or Ice Cream Saloon where you can enjoy a delicious lunch or a delicious ice cream treat.

Residents of
Old Deseret Village

Most of the children and adults enjoy going to the Adobe Brick Maker to learn how Utah's pioneers made sturdy bricks out of the native materials they had on hand. You may even learn something at the Heber East Ward School. As a student, you'll be introduced to the Deseret Alphabet and participate in children's games at recess.

The costumes are for the
time period and all the actors
did a fantastic job. They are not paid but volunteers. Some whole families volunteer.

As you visit various Pioneer Homes, you'll get an intimate view of day-to-day pioneer living. Daily chores - cooking, sewing, cleaning, spinning, weaving and dye making, to name a few -- are carried out in true pioneer style, with everyone pitching in and doing their share. If you're not careful, you may find yourself on the business end of a broom!

Some other places I didn't get photos of are The Deseret News where you can see actual printing equipment used to publish the first weekly newspaper in the Utah Territory. Other sites include the Cabinet and Furniture Shop, Godbe Pitts & Company Drug Store, the Old Social Hall, Manti Fort Gristmill, the Blacksmith Shop, and of course, the Old Sugar Factory Visitor Center where you will find a Gifts and Book Shop, Snack Bar, the mural room, and a film which portrays the greatest overland trek in American History.
